The Challenge

I’ve put together a route, about 2700 miles (4350km) in length, that I’d like to walk as a fundraiser for the Eden Valley Hospice in Carlisle, England. It will take me on an epic journey through Great Britain, that figuratively speaking, will bust my guts! Hence the name I’ve given to my challenge:

THE GREAT BRITISH GUT BUSTER

I plan to start my walk from John O’Groats, in North-East Scotland, on Sunday 16th April 2023. I have a maximum of exactly four months to complete my challenge (which is a very ambitious timeframe) as I fly home to New Zealand on 17th August!

Leg 1: John O’Groats to Cape Wrath (Scotland) – 104 miles (167km)
Leg 2: Cape Wrath to Kirk Yetholm (The Scottish National Trail) (Scotland) – 537 miles (864km)
Leg 3: Kirk Yetholm to Edale (Pennine Way) (England) – 268 miles (431km)
Return detour to the Eden Valley Hospice, Carlisle, Cumbria (England) 38.5 miles (62km)
Leg 4: Edale to Chester (England) – 55 miles (89km)
Leg 5: Chester to Chepstow (Wales Coastal Path) (Wales) – 870 miles (1400km)
Leg 6: Chepstow to Minehead (England) – 73 miles (118km)
Leg 7: Minehead to Poole (South West Coastal Path) (England) 630 miles (1014km)
